Hania Derej
Hania Derej – seems as if her day had more hours than that of an ordinary mortal. She recently turned 20, yet her oeuvre already includes 130 compositions. She is a true wonderkid of the Polish music scene, being a composer, pianist, arranger, and conductor all at once. She studies in Amsterdam (majoring in jazz composition and arrangement) and at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow (symphonic conducting). Her versatility in creating illustrative music is impressive, ranging from jazz (in formats such as trio, quintet, or solo) to chamber music, and recently also electronic music. No wonder she was hailed as the new hope of the Polish music scene in the SANKI poll by Gazeta Wyborcza. Hania Derej's works resonate not only with critics, jazz connoisseurs, and neoclassical music fans – recently her music could be heard at such popular events as Męskie Granie or the Poland Rock festival.
In May 2025, the artist released the album Over the World We Know, inspired by, among other things, outer space and its boundless expanse. For her, this marked the first and immediately an interstellar escapade to the electronic music domain. We will have the opportunity to accompany her on the next one on Sunday, September 21st, at the Iluzjon Cinema.
