kIRk
kIRk – over 20 years of the band’s activity, their music has constantly evolved – from a techno trio playing at Berlin’s Tresor, through a multi-person collective flirting with urban music trends, down to a heavily improvising electro-acoustic force. For a long time, the band walked on the dark side of the force – albums like Msza Święta w Brąswałdzie, Zła krew, or III delved into the extreme, being very far from peaceful emotion. Released in 2017, Ich dzikie serca heralded a breakthrough from the earlier style. The album titled K., published at the end of 2022, was a turning point in the band's career. Some time earlier, Olgierd Dokalski and Paweł Bartnik had invited Stanisław Matys to join the group. From then on, Matys and Dokalski formed the brass section, constituting the group’s core. The Duduk and the trumpet play simple, timeless themes. Bartnik catches these phrases on the spot, subtly processing and dispersing them in space.
Few artists are able to create such an evocative soundscape using such modest means. The trio will perform for the first three acts of the second part of Dr. Mabuse, titled Inferno. A dark, stuffy, and claustrophobic world of Fritz Lang Thea von Harbou, yet at the same time retaining a paranormal element to it, is the perfect reference point for kIRk's musical vision. After all, the trio’s power lies also in illustrative music, and this will not be its first time performing at the Silent Movie Festival.
