Antonina Nowacka

A vocalist, sound artist and composer, she crafts dreamlike soundscapes inspired by nature, landscapes and the states between wakefulness and sleep. Through her studies of traditional vocal practices from diverse cultures, as well as sound synthesis, she has developed a unique vocal quality marked by a characteristic, mesmerising vibrato reminiscent of the sound produced by a theremin. Her deep, meditative compositions oscillate between surreal storytelling and soundscapes in the spirit of deep listening.

She has recorded four solo albums – Lamunan (2020), Vocal Sketches from Oaxaca (2021), Languoria with Sofie Birch (2022) and her latest, highly acclaimed work Sylphine Soporifera (2024) – and collaborated with artists such as Agnieszka Polska (Plan Tysiącletni), and Nicolas Jaar (Weavings).

She has performed in many unique concert venues, from New York's Lincoln Centre and the Barbican in London to a cave on Java. Her performance at this year's Silent Movie Festival will be her second appearance at the event; her first came back in 2019 when she performed with the band kIRk for the film Filibus (1915) by Mario Roncoroni.
