Diomede

Grzegorz Tarwid is one of the most gifted pianists of his generation, as he showed with his rendition of George Gershwin’s challenging Piano Concerto in F at last year's International Jazz Day, organised by Polish Radio. After studying traditional jazz with Wojciech Kamiński and Andrzej Jagodziński, among others, he then expanded his horizons at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. Among the many bands he has worked with, one of the most important is the duo named Diomede which he formed with saxophonist Tomasz Markanicz. Their debut album, People From East, released in 2017, was built upon their decade-long friendship and collaboration, and it’s clear that they are both on the same wavelength with their smooth shifts from traditional to avant-garde, and from folklore to cool minimalism. During the festival, Diomede will play the music to accompany the films The Mystery of the Leaping Fish and A Canine Sherlock Holmes. (JB)
